Welcome to Wood Burn Society

Every wood-burner knows the feeling…

You spend hours with a wood burning pen carefully burning lines and shading. You step back from the wood and think… “Does this look right?”

Sometimes all it takes is another artist saying three simple words:

“Beautiful work.”

“Love the detail.”

“Nice lines”

That encouragement matters more than people realize.

Wood Burn Society exists because every artist deserves a community that understands their work. Here you’ll find a community of wood-burners sharing works in progress, celebrating finished pieces, and supporting each other simply by showing up and leaving a few encouraging words. Whether you quietly watch from the sidelines looking for inspiration or proudly share every project you create, there’s a place for you here.

🔥Find your community and start creating alongside wood burners who understand the patience and effort behind every line🔥

Wood Burn Society Events

Monthly Community Circles

Community Circles are open to everyone! If you love wood burning, you are welcome here. Whether you're starting your very first wood project or you've been creating burned pieces for years, these gatherings are a chance for artists to connect, share their work, and get to know one another.

During a Community Circle you can:

• Briefly introduce yourself
• Share what wood project you're currently working on
• Show a finished piece or a work in progress if you'd like
• Ask a question to the group

These gatherings are relaxed and friendly. The goal is simply to spend time together and network with other artists.

Community Circles take place on Zoom and last about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Saturday, March 28, 6pm PST / 9pm EST

Spring Showcase: Creations from the Hub

We are celebrating something special, the one-year anniversary of the Hub.

Over the past year, artists in this community have shared an incredible collection of wood burned art. To celebrate, we’ve created a virtual gallery exhibit called “Spring Showcase: Creations from the Hub.”

This exhibit highlights a selection of burned pieces shared by members of the community and celebrates the creativity that continues to grow here.

On Saturday, March 21, the gallery will open to the public. You will be invited to browse the exhibit and click the heart icon next to the artwork you love.

As we move forward, we plan to host more virtual gallery shows, so join our membership, keep sharing your latest burns, and finished pieces in the Hub.

Tell Me More About Wood Burning

Wood burning is a slow, intentional form of drawing using heat instead of ink or paint. If you love clean lines, bold shapes, rustic designs, cabin life, cottage core, or tattoo aesthetics, this medium will allow you to create beautiful eye-catching pieces.

If you’re brand new, don’t worry: tracing templates makes it incredibly beginner-friendly. With a basic burner and a simple design to trace, anyone can make clean lines and beautiful handmade pieces. Whether you’re crafty, artistic, or just curious, it’s easier than most people expect.

Check out one of our wood burning overviews to learn about the basic supplies and steps to start wood burning.

Learn To Burn

Wood burning is a journey filled with triumphs, burnt fingertips, and that one time you set off the smoke alarm at 2 AM. Whether you’re a beginner trying not to set your workspace on fire or an experienced burner leveling up your skills, we’ve got something for you.

Learn, evolve, and try not to pass out from noxious fumes from sketchy wood you found behind a dumpster. (Seriously, don’t do that.)

We have the safety tips and knowledge to help you start producing Wood Burned Wonders while enjoying the process of wood burning.

I read sanding guide article. Really it’s very helpful to me. Thanks.

Thank you very much for this advice/tip about not pressing hard on the wood. As a beginner, I find this key in my learning the art

I am very happy to have found this page of yours . . . I built a pyrography work with the image of a bullfighter named Manolete and from there I made others for friends

Become A Member!

In the Wood Burn Society, we celebrate the process, the mess, the breakthroughs, and the “I messed up that section but I kinda love this piece” moments. Our members are new and experienced wood burners who really want to have fun, be happy, make friends, and be supported through their creative journey. Why are our members happy? Where else can you say “I just spent three hours burning a tiny owl into a spoon” or “I was able to get my stencil lined up perfectly” and it is met with the enthusiasm it deserves. Our paid members have access to the Burnt Art Hub which is the online meeting space for our community.

Our Community Believes:

  • Everyone belongs here not just the “talented.”

  • Kindness is fuel. So is laughter.

  • It's okay if you're not trying to make a business out of it.

  • It's okay if you are.

  • Tracing doesn’t make you less of a burner, maker, or creator.

  • We are all learning and you don’t need to meet some standard to join

  • Owning a wood burner is all you need to start

  • You don’t have to be a pro to inspire someone.

  • You don’t have to be perfect to be proud of your work.

  • Life is better with friends!

  • Praise, joy, and creativity are contagious!!

What Our Members Say
About Our Community…

Our “Unofficial” Mission

We exist because wood burning isn’t just a technique, it’s a slightly unhinged obsession that makes our homes smell like a rustic forest fire in the best possible way. We’re here for the burners who hoard wood slices like a dragon, and who get way too excited about a perfectly burnt line. Our mission? To give pyrography the respect it deserves, to hype up burners who finally nail that gradient shading, and to create a space where “I just spent three hours burning a tiny owl into a spoon” is met with the enthusiasm it deserves. Together, we’re building a community where wood burning is not just appreciated… but celebrated like the fine art form (and mildly flammable lifestyle choice) that it is! We want artists to come for the pyrography, and stay for the wildly fun community that makes every creative journey better.

Official Mission Statement

Our mission is to increase awareness and appreciation of wood burned art by helping artists publicize their work, increase their web presence, build their skills, and by giving them a vibrant community where they can connect with each other in meaningful ways.

Official Vision of the Future

Wood burned artwork would be appreciated and respected in the same manner as watercolor painting, oil painting, pen & ink, and the other traditional art techniques. Our wood burned masterpieces would be hung in the most prestigious galleries and museums for the public to enjoy. Our community of wood burning artists would be filled with many people from different backgrounds that are eager to learn the techniques and share their creativity.
